About Us

As a Baptist church we are part of the local association of Baptist Churches, the Heart of England Baptist Association, a member of the Baptist Union of Great Britain.

What is a Baptist?

Baptists are a group of Christian denominations, churches, and individuals who subscribe to a theology of believer’s baptism (as opposed to infant baptism), salvation through faith alone, Scripture alone as the rule of faith and practice, and the autonomy of the local church. They practice baptism by immersion (as opposed to affusion or sprinkling).

About Us

Mission Statement

“Our mission is to serve, love and obey God and introduce people to Jesus Christ.”

Committed to Worship

• in which the Triune God is worshipped through Bible-based music, preaching, baptism and communion, and prayer, and in which there is a response of sincere adoration to Him.

• in which the gospel is lived out as a life of worship through the week, not just on Sundays.

Committed to Prayer

• in which the church realises its dependence on God in prayer.

• in which there is a growing commitment to personal and corporate prayer.

Committed to Fellowship

• in which we are walking together, in the love of Christ and the unity of the Holy Spirit.

• in which every believer is cared for practically and spiritually.

• in which every believer is making every effort to join with others in Sunday worship and small groups, for the building up of each other in love.

Committed to Mission

• in which every believer is encouraged, supported and equipped to go into the world and make disciples.

• which is aware of, and serving, the practical needs of the community, so as to be able to build bridges for the gospel.

• which is committed financially, and in prayer, to the work of God beyond Newport Baptist Church Shropshire.

Committed to Faithful Stewardship

• which is debt-free in which the gifts of all are being identified, nurtured through training, and used to their full potential.

Baptist Union Declaration of Principle

1. That our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, God manifest in the flesh, is the sole and absolute authority in all matters pertaining to faith and practice, as revealed in the Holy Scriptures, and that each Church has liberty, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, to interpret and administer His laws.

2. That Christian Baptism is the immersion in water into the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, of those who have professed repentance towards God and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ who 'died for our sins according to the Scriptures; was buried, and rose again the third day'.

3. That it is the duty of every disciple to bear personal witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and to take part in the evangelisation of the world.
